Ultimate WP SMS allows you to automatically add users to a group when they send a specific keyword or phrase via SMS. This guide will walk you through the setup process and explain the additional customization options available for tailoring the user experience.
🔧 Step-by-Step Setup
From your WordPress dashboard sidebar, go to:
Ultimate WP SMS → Groups
Here, you’ll see a list of all the SMS groups you’ve created.
Each group card displays a row of icons at the top.
Click on the envelope icon () to access the opt-in settings for that group.
A popup will appear, allowing you to configure keyword-based subscription.

Inside the popup, find the field labeled:
"Subscription keyword or phrase"
Enter a keyword (e.g., JOIN, INFO, EVENTS) or phrase that users can text to subscribe to this group.
Example:
If you use JOINCLUB as the keyword, any user who sends an SMS with the text JOINCLUB will be automatically added to the group.

After setting the keyword:
The system will monitor incoming SMS messages,
If a message matches your keyword or phrase,
The sender’s number will be automatically added to the selected group.
No manual work is required for each subscriber.
You can customize what users see when they subscribe, are already subscribed, or are added manually.

Each group can have its own unique opt-in keyword.
Keywords are not case-sensitive.
Make sure to save changes after configuration.
You can test the functionality by sending the keyword to your SMS number from any mobile device.
